AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles

AltaSea selected Gafcon, Inc. to provide project management services for their new 35-acre campus located in San Pedro. Built on a historic pier with access to the deep ocean, the campus will expand science-based understanding of the ocean, incubate and sustain ocean-related business, and pioneer new ocean-related education programs. The Gensler-created design will convert old warehouses into a high-performance ocean-oriented science and business hub to accelerate scientific collaboration, facilitate job creation, and foster a more sustainable ocean.

The project will be completed in stages. The first phase will include restoration of warehouses 58-60 into space where the scientific, business, and education communities can connect and collaborate to develop solutions to coastal and ocean challenges. The Wharf Plaza will allow large research vessels such as the E/V Nautilus to dock and the Education Pavilion will include an indoor classroom, a coffee or snack bar, and scenic outside amphitheater-style seating where students and lifelong learners will attend lectures, demonstrations, and exhibitions.
