The Pueblo of Sandia wanted to complement their 210,000 SF casino with an enhanced outdoor amphitheater to draw top entertainers, providing a truly all-inclusive and luxurious experience for their visitors. Their first amphitheater, which had completed construction just seven months before, proved challenging and inefficient in hosting events. Sandia was spending more money making accommodations for the events, including upgrading the amphitheater’s power capability, as well as renting stage cover and televisions for each performance. The Pueblo of Sandia determined that demolishing the structure and starting from scratch would be the most cost-effective approach.
Gafcon, Inc. provided construction management services for the outdoor amphitheater, including the demolition of the former amphitheater. The amphitheater’s seating was expanded from 3,200 seats to more than 4,000 and includes food and beverage service facilities. Backstage, there are dressing rooms, a truck-loading area, and new electrical systems. Gafcon, Inc.’s services included construction oversight; design team coordination; contract administration; document control; processing and approval of payment packages; quality control assurance; coordination of testing and inspections; and project closeout. This fast-track project was completed on time and well within budget.
