2/7/2018 – SD Business Journal: San Diego's Gafcon Inc. Picked For Development In China
By Ray Huard

Gafcon Inc. of San Diego has been selected to lead the master planning and development of a residential community in China.

Zizhu Purple Bay will be on an 800-acre waterfront site along the Huangpu River 18 miles south of Shanghai.

The development will include yacht homes, condominiums, a nature and education center with an aquarium of about 125,000 square feet and botanical garden and a rowing club.

Plans also call for a community services district with a health clinic, senior housing, youth center and several schools.

Among tenants committed to the project are the University of Southern California, General Electric, and Coca-Cola.

“This is a legacy project at a tremendous scale,” said Gafcon CEO Yehudi “Gaf” Gaffen. “We are essentially building a new city from the ground up.”

Working with Gafcon on the Zizhu Purple Bay project are AVRP Skyport architects, McCullough Landscape Architecture, Moffat & Nichol marine engineering, and OdySea for aquarium operations.

“Zizhu Purple Bay will be one of AVRP Skyport’s signature urban, waterfront properties,” said AVRP Principal Frank Wolden. “New community assets will connect with the region’s greatest resource – the waterfront – into one incredible experience. The cohesive design will create a livable, desirable, and thriving community.”
