San Diego Mesa College will dedicate its new exercise science center on April 13.
The $14.3 million exercise science center, a 27,200-square-foot, two-story structure, will serve as the new home of the School of Exercise Science, Health Education, Dance and Athletics. It includes an aerobics studio, weight training room, spinning room, free weight training lab, athletic training room, a wet lab with whirlpools and icing stations to treat injuries, cardio fitness training lab and an office suite.
Balfour Beatty Construction and gkkworks were the design-build team for the project. The civil engineer was Nasland Engineering. The electrical engineer was Michael Wall Engineering/Gould. The mechanical engineer was Southland Industries and the structural engineer was KPFF. The landscape architect was McCullough Landscape Architecture. Gafcon, Inc. was the project manager.
The $1.555 billion Proposition S and N construction bond program funded the center and provides new instructional and career training facilities, renovations and infrastructure projects for City, Mesa and Miramar colleges as well as six continuing education campuses throughout San Diego.
