2/12/18 – SD 500 Update: Items of Interest about People in the San Diego 500, The Book of Influential Business Leaders
Yehudi Gaffen will be one of the featured speakers on March 1 at the Burham-Moores Center for Real Estate’s 22nd annual conference at the University of San Diego. Gaffen, CEO of Gafcon, Inc., will be in the headlines again soon as one of his companies, Protea Waterfront Development, addresses its proposed $1.2 billion redevelopment of Seaport Village as part of the Port of San Diego’s vetting process. The project’s architect is AVRP Skyport Studios, whose four principals includes SD 500 Member Frank Wolden.
Gafcon recently was selected to lead a visionary master planning and redevelopment process in China for the Zizhu Purple Bay residential community, a megaproject on an 800-acre waterfront site along the Huangpu River 18 miles south of Shanghai.
The project includes a business, technology and university hub, a marina and a walkable downtown.
“This is a legacy project at a tremendous scale,” Gaffen said, “We are essentially building a new city from the ground up.”
AVRP Skyport Studios also is working on the project.
Gafcon in November completed the renovation of a National Guard Armory Building in Los Angeles that is now the Wende Museum, which is dedicated to the Cold War.
