Tri-City Medical Center (TCMC) was established in 1961 as a hospital to serve the emerging North County area of San Diego. The healthcare facility expanded throughout the years becoming a premier healthcare campus for this community. Due to the rapid growth of the area and increase in demand for improved healthcare services, TCMC undertook an ambitious expansion program to upgrade facilities. Gafcon, Inc. was retained to provide construction management services for two projects under this new plan.
Designed by the Stichler Design Group, the $1.5M Laboratory Services remodel for TCMC’s Radiology division involved remodeling and expanding the existing 12,000 SF facility. Throughout construction, Gafcon, Inc.’s coordination between the construction team and TCMC staff ensured the Laboratory Department remained operational for its patients.
Designed by McGraw Baldwin Architects, the $670K Women’s Diagnostic Center renovation captured approximately 1,900 SF of previously unimproved space and the remaining 1,700 SF required soft demolition. Within the elegantly designed 3,600 SF space, high-end features included round soffits, soft lighting, and curved cabinets with art glass to provide a comfortable, soothing environment with the latest technology in mammography examination equipment available for women undergoing diagnosis. Gafcon, Inc.’s responsibilities included coordination of construction, tenant improvements, and move-in coordination.
