Annual survey of construction industry leaders recognizes the firm’s success in managing complex projects on an international stage.
SAN DIEGO (June 14, 2018)--- Gafcon, Inc., a construction and program management firm based in San Diego, has been recognized as one of the nation’s premier construction services firms, according to a new ranking by Engineering News-Record (ENR).
Gafcon ranked 41st in Top Program Management Firms and 62nd in the category of Top Construction Management-For-Fee Firms. Gafcon’s place in this year’s standing improves upon its 2017 placement, when it was ranked 43rd and 63rd in the respective categories. Gafcon once again secured a spot on the list of third-party companies that project owners turn to in order to manage intricate construction programs.
With three decades of experience, and three offices in Southern California, Gafcon has built a reputation for innovative and cost-effective construction and program management skills, delivering on behalf of school bond programs, next-generation private development and community-centered megaprojects.
“Our work and our team have grown and changed over the past 30 years, but we are still a family at our core,” said Josh Gaffen, Vice President of Gafcon. “ENR’s annual list is an important benchmark in the construction management industry. It is an honor to be included.”
Gafcon was founded by CEO Yehudi “Gaf” Gaffen in 1987. He emigrated from South Africa to San Diego in the 1970s and founded the company with his wife Pam. Today, Gafcon has offices in San Diego, Los Angeles and Orange County and serves clients both locally and internationally.
In addition to construction management, Gafcon specializes in labor compliance, expert witness forensic analysis and technological solutions such as Building Information Modeling. With the acquisition of McDowell Scheduling this year, Gafcon now offers the construction scheduling expertise of one of the field’s recognized leaders, Phillip McDowell.
Currently, Gafcon is the program manager of two waterfront megaprojects, each totaling more than $1 billion in new development.
Spanning 3,200 acres along the Huangpu River, Zizhu High Tech Park is a roughly $12 billion master-planned development that will contain a 900-acre residential community and an 800-acre business, technology and university hub, as well as numerous retail, entertainment, hospitality, health care, recreation and educational facilities.
Seaport San Diego will reimagine a 70-acre site downtown site along the San Diego Bay with hotels, parks, an aquarium, a learning center, blue-tech incubator space and significant waterside improvements, including a revitalized commercial fishing basin at the historic Tuna Harbor site.
