$7.6 Million Proposition U-funded Project Provides Modern Instructional Facilities for District’s Rigorous Career Technical Education Programs

Grand re-opening/re-dedication celebration for three classroom buildings (the 700, 800 and 800A Buildings) following a major renovation and modernization project to bring the outdated facilities up to modern standards and accommodate the district’s Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways.

Celebration included:

  • In place of a traditional ribbon-cutting, students have created a metal chain that they will cut through with a plasma cutter.
  • Building dedication, facility tours
  • Speakers and local dignitaries
  • Automotive program students demonstrating brake, tire and fluid maintenance, and operating scanners to perform diagnostics and tune-ups
  • Manufacturing technology students demonstrating metal fabrication and welding

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

  • Project, completed in two phases over seven months, involved the renovation and modernization of three outdated buildings, totaling nearly 32,000 square feet:
    • 700 Building – features an all-new kitchen, which supplies meals for the entire campus, and two classrooms for the school’s music programs
    • 800 Building – includes new computer labs to support the school’s game design CTE pathway, new ASB facility, new student weight room, student restrooms, office space and storage
    • 800A Building – houses the auto and metals CTE programs
  • Construction cost: $7.6 million
  • Funded by Proposition U, budgeted at $601.7 million, which includes a $417 million bond measure passed by voters in 2008 as well as $184.7 million in expected state funding and interest earnings. The bond will substantially complete the modernization of district schools, and provide classrooms and equipment for Career Technical Education.
