“Gafcon has allowed us to exceed air quality recommendations and provide a healthy environment to return students and teachers to the classroom.”
Carey Upton
Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, Chief Operating Officer
Like many coastal school districts in California built without air conditioning, the changing climate has been an increasing concern for Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District educators and parents, as well as maintaining well-ventilated classrooms is important for students to have comfortable learning environments.
Since 2016, Gafcon, Inc. has been providing program and project management services to the District for their $22M heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) project across their 16 elementary, middle, and high school campuses in Santa Monica and Malibu. Our team has been able to leverage lessons-learned on San Diego Unified School District’s $87M HVAC Phase 1 Program, as well as the $250M Phase II Program, to discover cost savings.
Additionally, as part of our efforts to add value to our client services, we have implemented contractor outreach strategies that increased the bid pool for the District by 300%. This is an important factor in getting the most competitive bids, as well as making sure the District has a quality pool of candidates to choose from.
